Why would you like to join the Arbiter Committee? I would like to be an arbiter because it is the best way for me to give back to CSC with my busy schedule. My lengthy presence in CSC as a player and my role as admin and founder of VDC gives me a unique perspective that I believe I can use to help out with appeals, and it would be fun to try and be the arbitration for a league. Side tangent: I know the question of ""would you be able to dedicate time to both CSC and VDC"" is going to come up in discussions, so I would like to address that now. I believe that the work I do as an admin can very easily be split with arbitration duties. Not to say I don't do anything as a VDC admin, nor that I will be putting less thought into arbitration, but I can manage to find time to do both.

What prior experience do you have, if any, do you think is relevant for this position? As previously stated, being a founder and admin of VDC that has an appeals system set up gives me some perspective into how arbitration works within CSC (or at least how I understand it does). Additionally, my perspective as a player and friendships with many different facets of the league (ranging from core founders of the league to players who have been struck many, many times) will allow me to offer useful discussion on many arbitration tickets. I also think my lack of playing this season (and potentially next, depending on schedule) would make me a good candidate because I wouldn't have to recuse as much from appeals involving a franchise I am on.

What does impartiality mean to you?

To me, when something has impartiality, it means it is judged as fairly as possible without pre-existing biases or judgements. For example, an impartial judge in a court of law is one that holds no judgement for a plaintiff or defendant or either of their counsel. The judge would only make a ruling based on the context and evidence of the case.

As an arbiter you must be a neutral voice for those making appeals. Siding directly with someone making appeals or against them breaks the impartiality arbiters are meant to uphold. Similarly, you have to remain at least amenable to mods as arbiters do rely on mods to answer any evidence questions about cases. Do you see yourself as having or being perceived to have any issues in these areas? If so please address any concerns others may have.

I don’t see any issues I will have with becoming arbiter in that sense. I can remain impartial in the sense that I will not pick a side or vote on a decision until all evidence and context is provided to me. Although I state in my application that I have many friends who offer me different perspectives on a ticket, I say that in the sense that I can step into their shoes and see how they would feel if it was them appealing. I would not directly side with or against anyone based on my previous interactions with them, and if there is any doubt that I could, I will recuse or remove myself from discussion of that particular appeal. As for remaining amenable with mods, I can say that I’ll be able to do that pretty easily. I’ve been in CSC since season 1 and have had 1 strike in my entire CSC career (and i don’t blame mods for the strike). I don’t recall ever being unfriendly to moderators as a whole or ever hounding on them for a decision they made so I believe I can keep it civil, if not friendly, with the moderation team.

Are you generally available on tuesdays/thursdays to rule on appeals that might impact a player getting to play on that match day?

I’ll likely be on to review evidence and pitch my opinions but not much more than that, hence why I am a permanent free agent. It changes from day to day based on how busy my schoolwork gets, but in general if needed I can take time to review a case if it is urgent.

I know, I’m just separating the difference between what I can do as arbiter on tuesdays and thursdays and what I can do as a player on those days. I understand that a PFA tag might signify I have less time for the league when it’s just that I have limited availability to play counter strike on match days.
