Hello everyone! This is the Season 9 Arbiter Committee Discussion channel. This channel (and connected threads) will be made available until 11:59PM EST on Saturday 9/24 when we will then open voting. Please use the threads to ask candidates questions, even if it is the same question for each candidate. This helps to keep things organized as well as makes it much easier for each of our candidates to be able to keep track of what questions they have being asked to them. Anyone is eligible to participate in asking questions to the candidates. Please keep these channels on topic and avoid posting any memes/gifs. These channels are meant to be serious and mods/admins will deny individual people the ability to participate in discussions if the channel starts getting abused. I would also like to note that Arbiters do not dish out punishments nor do they decide how punishments are given. They are only there to uphold, change, or remove a strike given to a player depending on what the whole arbitration committee (minus anyone who has recused) votes.

Time to meet your candidates!

As a point of clarification to the question Saunce posed that may or may not be relevant. Arbiters as is have 7 days from the point that the person making an appeal places their defense to come to a final decision

This is a limit to the process, but many cases are resolved sooner

they could be referring to the time between when a ticket is sumbitted and when it is replied to/the process starts, but that's an issue with head arbiters specifically (edited)

It is good to know there is a deadline in place. Knowing this, applicants do not have to answer my question, but I will leave it there in the event they want to.

While that is a valid interpretation, I was more concerned about defense submitted to result. I haven't had to do an appeal, but I would hope you'd be able to make your case in the initial ticket which would start the 7 day timer. Arbiters taking more than 7 days to reach a verdict due to clarification needed from the individual appealing would be understandable if the appealing individual took a little longer to respond, especially if they decided they needed further clarification on day 6. However, I would also understand if they request further clarification and reached a verdict on day 7 without receiving the clarification due to wanting to stay consistent on time-frames.

in my experience, once the actual appeal starts, the appellant puts forward their case and it is decided within 7 days. clarification from the appellant is rarely requested and the decision is almost always delivered with the following format (more or less): "the arbiters have decided to (uphold/overturn) your strike, [for]-[against]. let us know when you see this message so we can close the appeal" (edited)

and you don't actually make your case in the ticket, you just state your intention to appeal and make your case in the appeal itself (separate channel)
