Why would you like to join the Arbiter Committee? Just looking to make CSC a better place and be a fair voice in interpreting and applying the rules.

What prior experience do you have, if any, do you think is relevant for this position? Am a mod in NartOutHere's discord/twitch, though that's easy. Last ban I did was a guy calling s1mple a Nazi, Ukrainians pigs, and WePlay a political propaganda machine. It's pretty clear cut there and up to personal judgement, most of the time warnings solve most of the issues.

What do you think the most difficult part of being an arbiter will be for you?
Avatar
Finding the line in fringe cases where the rules are purposefully vague. I think intent behind infractions is an important factor, but that's not always easy to decipher especially in cases of newer player or those without track records.

What exactly do you think you can bring as an arbiter that others don't?

Response time is a common staff complaint. What do you think is a reasonable response time for a case that gets to your role, and do you believe there could be systems put into place that could expedite the process while still maintaining fairness and consistency? Edit:Firehawk basically answered this question in the main channel, so I'm not expecting a response, but I'll leave it here in the event you have anything additional to add. (edited)

I work a job with irregular hours, so I can't be on discord all the time. I can commit to checking and responding to everything within my responsibilities in 24 hours without hesitation. And with my irregular hours, I tend to be a degen and be on discord later than most.

All I really offer is a fair and level headed responses in my role. I generally do my best to consider everyone's perspective in moments that lead to actions. If you ask anyone I play with regularly, I tend to maintain a cool head in stressful situation.

Good to hear! I'm burnt out on typing detailed responses, so I appreciate the straightforward response. Best of luck!

To be honest, I don't think it's an overly complicated job. You want someone you trust to be active, look at everything from both sides, and able to recognize any inherent biases they have to recuse themselves from votes they should not be in.

Do you believe that most cases should looked at with "did they break the rule Y/N" or do you think the context as to why something was done matters?
Avatar
Context definitely matters. As stated in a previous response, I think intent behind infractions is an important factor. That is one side of why vague rules exist, to allow them to be applied differently in contexts. That said, I am not one to blindly give the benefit of the doubt to everyone. If I am overturning or adjusting strikes, there has to be proper evidence or context provided by the user asking for arbitration.

As an arbiter there are 3 different types of cases that are commonly dealt with. The first being an appeal where the person making said appeal is purely attempting to have an area to complain to the staff about their case, while having broken the rule and making no attempt to argue against that fact. The second being an appeal where the case isn't about the evidence, but rather that the evidence presented being across the line or not. (i.e. was the message sent political argument in bad faith or not, or other method where the evidence may not break the guidelines). The third being an appeal where the evidence may or may not prove sufficiently that the appellant committed the act (A case where the question isn't if the act broke the rules, but if the evidence is enough to prove the rules were broken.) Which of these cases do you think you'd have the most issue taking part in personally?
Avatar
Third seems the hardest, but I have no issue taking part of. I am not a fan of pushing punishments for cases without sufficient proof, at the same time I am not a fan of overly over ruling mods. Finding that middle ground seems like the hardest case.
