Why do you want to become an Admin? It is no secret that the past 2 seasons have been a little rougher than normal for the league. I believe admin inactivity and communication issues played a large part in the issues we've seen so far this year. I want to help guide the league back to a stable upwards trajectory in terms of player happiness, retention, growth, etc., and I am capable of putting in the hard work to achieve that.
10:28 PM
What prior experience do you have that you believe will help you as an Admin? I have been in and around the league for 6 seasons (S1-3 and S6-now), and played 5 seasons of RSC prior to that. In my time in the league I've been a GM for one season, AGM for 3, and captain for the other 2. I am also quite active in discussion of suggestions for league improvement. My experience with the league and its processes would make my transition into the Admin position much easier, and be useful knowledge to draw on when making decisions.
10:28 PM
What things do you hope to implement, reinforce, or remove as an Admin. First, I'd like to support the effort to document league processes. Over the seasons I believe a lot of knowledge has been lost during admin transitions, and a set of standard operating procedures would help ease new admins into the role and ensure consistency between seasons. For example, schedule templates for different sized tiers, which I believe Scraps created this past season, will make the creation of schedules much easier. I'm not too sure the extent to which our committees such as media, numbers or tech have their processes documented, but I would like to encourage committee heads and other knowledgeable committee members to do that. Secondly, I think the serious suggestions process could use a reform. It is disheartening as a player to make a suggestion that seems to have everyone's support, and then have it sit for weeks untouched because the admins forgot about it. I believe we should implement a process where after a certain amount of positive votes, the admin team is required to look into and produce an official response for the suggestion stating if it will be implemented, and if not, why. Besides those ideas, I hope to support other initiatives such as the reorganization of the discord. However, with all of these ideas, I cannot truly promise anything before the elections as I am not 100% familiar with everything that goes on behind the scenes of CSC.

My question for admin candidates is how do you plan on changing the perception of the admin role? I think alot of the community has a negative view, and I would love to see more staff appreciation in our community. I understand that shouldn't entirely be your responsibility, but if you have anything yall would be interested in doing about it, feel free to share :)

I'd have a hard time choosing, but I think I'd go with Cash and M3CHATR0NIC.
  • Cash: I know Cash will put in 110% effort into his duties as admin. He's got a great passion for the league and he has many great ideas for improving CSC.
  • M3CHATR0NIC: Mecha has experience in a million different places (CSC, VDC, UB esports, readtldr, etc.) and I know he will bring valuable insight from all of these experiences. Also, most importantly, if he and I are elected, the admin team will be majority western New Yorkers πŸ’ͺ .
Incredibly hard choice overall but I'd love to work with these guys on the admin team.

Obviously, sponsors are a controversial topic within CSC. But, I am not opposed at all to taking a server sponsor if we are able to find one that fits us. I'm not sure it would really do much in terms of making CSC appear more legit. It certainly wouldn't hurt, as long as the server provider doesn't have a bad rep within the community (in which case we probably shouldn't take the sponsorship).

Look at my answers to the admin form as well as all of the questions from the community. If you like my answers and think I would be a good admin, then vote for me πŸ™ I don't see prize pools as a good direction for CSC to move towards. If you want a prize pool, make sure to join the Trashmoe Cup in the offseason. How many tiers we need can only be decided by how many signups we get. If we have the player numbers to support it, there is nothing inherently bad about expanding to 5th or even 6th tier. If you are interested in the implementation of more tiers, that is a probably a good question for Numbers Committee.

I think admins need to "talk the talk and walk the walk", so to speak. Both parts are important for improving the perception of admins. They should keep in frequent communication with the league to make sure players are informed as to changes being made. And the for the other half, admins should work hard to improve the league, and if good changes are made, those actions will speak for themselves. In terms of specific ideas, I think some past initiatives, such as the admin newsletter or the admin Trello board have been good efforts to keep the public informed. Of course, they were eventually discontinued, but I'd be willing to bring one or both of those things back if it is something the community wants.
  • Side note: I don't think the admin newsletter was officially stopped, but it really should be a lot more frequent than the single one we had this season.

Do you have a more specific idea of how you might try to change the suggestions channel, especially for the users suggesting things? Although its sometimes detrimental, I think the way it’s fairly β€œinformal” is a big part of what makes the channel useful so I’m interested to know if your idea(s) would affect the user side. The way I'm thinking of doing this would be to have people react with an emoji such as ⬆️ or πŸ‘. If a suggestion reaches say, 15 of those reactions, then it will go to the admin team for an official response. I would characterize it more as an addition to the existing serious suggestions system, and it shouldnt affect the informality of it much. (edited)

Do you have any ideas that can help with FA retention between seasons?
HG | andrew πŸ† 8/11/2022 2:11 PM
FA retention is always a tough issue to combat. We really have two main ways to work on this issue: Improving the FA experience with subbing in the actual league, and creating other events and experiences to keep FAs involved outside of subbing. With regards to outside events, we have the Trashmoe Cup in the offseason as well as the monthly wingman events that I think provide a good avenue for FAs to get involved in the league and keep them interested. I think I might suggest a version of the Trashmoe Cup that occurs midseason as an addition to the current events. This would be a good way to capitalize on the excitement of players that join midseason, and give them a taste of playing with the community if they haven't been able to sub yet as a PFA. As with anything, we might not have enough events bandwidth to make this happen, especially during the middle of a season, but I think it's worth looking into at the least. I have also seen some suggestions recently of a "Franchise Cup", this could also be something useful if we are able to incorporate FAs into it. For the actual FA experience in the league: This is the most important thing to focus on improving, although doing that is easier said than done I think. In my mind at least, public MMR goes a long way to helping players understand why they are cut, and helps FAs understand why they might be unable to sub for certain teams. Also, the rules preventing a GM from backing out on a sub is a good protection to have in place for FAs. I know subbing can be a less than fun experience for FAs, but I don't have many great ideas on how to improve it. I know the end of season feedback form asks FAs about their experience, so if that information is not being used, then we should make sure it is. Maybe there could be a use for a midseason feedback form to capture the opinions of unsatisfied players that may not be around by the time the end of season form is sent out.

I am assuming you are referring to the issues of admin inactivity/lack of communication. With regards to these, I will have lots of free time this coming season as I will only be in school with not much else to do, so I can guarantee my availability to do admin work (including the work of keeping the public informed). If you want to know specific ideas to improving public communication, see the second part of my answer to Chilled_Pyro: https://discord.com/channels/644377562516029460/1007113080880250880/1007154800439341106 If those were not the issues you wanted me to address, just let me know and I'll do my best to answer.

This question is being posed to all candidates: A big thing in some of your platforms is transparency between staff and players. First off, do you see the need for more accountability for admins specifically? If so, what are some ways you can come up with to accomplish this? I'm not just talking about punishing admins using their positions of power for wrongful purposes, but also less intense (not the right word for it but I'm blanking) things, like having regular-ish updates about current admin projects/discussions. These pre-election discussion threads are great, but once someone is elected, it would be helpful to have ways to confirm they are sticking to what they said they would do. If they aren't, I think that is something we the people deserve to know come re-election time.

HG | andrew πŸ† 8/12/2022 12:32 AM
RSC has a rule where I believe a GM has to be GM for 1 or 2 season before rebranding, and then they only have 1 rebrand. It's something like that, but it definitely serves to make franchises longer lasting and not constantly rotating every season. To be honest, I'm not sure how I feel about it. On one hand having more constant franchises servers to better develop rivalries and something for players to better identify with. On the other hand though, new franchises and themes are always fun and I like seeing all of the new ideas. Overall, I think I don't lean either way on this topic.

@GAS | Stynky @PFA | Crispy @ATO | Assass1n Apologies for taking a while on this one, I wanted to make sure my answer was high quality. I'm going to try to give one answer that addresses all of your questions, as I think they are related. If I miss something or you need more information please let me know. The number one thing I want to do as admin is help create standard operating procedures for the admin team and encourage committees to do the same. For the admin team, this would be things like having a planned schedule for how the 3 seasons should fit into a year, so we never have any issues with not being able to end our last season on time. Or, another example, documenting how to process signups. For a committee, say media, this could be how a new observer can set up their system to observe CSC matches. Maybe these specific things have already been done, but the general idea remains. Having these procedures documented will make it easier for new admins or committee members to be brought up to speed. Additionally, it will help all of staff do their work quicker and with fewer mistakes. Lastly, distributing knowledge among committee members will reduce the amount that certain committees depend on one or two members to function. All in all, saving time on the day to day tasks will allow admins more time to create new things to better the league. To answer the question of what longstanding impact I would like to have, it would be that. I would like things to be set up so that any new admin can easily come in and start working, and not have to spend too much time on mundane tasks, or spend a lot of time learning how to do those tasks. Ultimately, more effective admins and committees will improve player experience in the league, which is the end goal that should be driving most if not all decisions.

I believe that more admin accountability would generally be a positive thing, but we need to make sure it doesn't take away too much time from the actual admin duties. I think a great solution to this would be using a project planning tool, such as Trello or JIRA. If the admin team actually used a tool like this to plan their work, then it would effectively be no extra work to allow the public to view it. I believe there used to be an Admin Trello board back in Season 6 or something like that, but I don't know what happened to it or why they stopped using it. Another option is something like the admin newsletter. This is easier to follow and understand for the general player, but it would most likely provide a lot less individual accountability. Also, step bro made a great point in his thread that at some points during the season there just isn't anything meaningful to be shared in a newsletter like that. Even if that is the case, I think the admin newsletter is something that we should bring back with more frequency. To your last point about re-election and election promises, we might be able to save the discussion threads into a google doc, so everyone can look back on it come the next election. Or, if saving entire threads is too much of a pain, it should be much easier to pull their previous admin application.

Yeah the newsletter point you and stepbro made is valid. I wasn't aware of the public trello board, if that was something that went away i think it'd be a great move to bring it back. You and crudest both mentioned archiving these threads so we could view them at all times or something similar, which I'm glad you brought up and i think that's a needed first step.
