For the record: Arbiters do not dish out punishments nor do they decide how punishments are given. They are only there to uphold, change, or remove a strike given to a player depending on what the whole arbitration committee (minus anyone who has recused) votes.

Reposting here: It is important to note for everyone here that arbiters recuse themselves (and tell each other to recuse) if there is potential bias to be had (ex or current teammate/gm/agm/etc) and it is also not known to the public/person appealing which arbiters were involved in their case. If you have any other confusion in the processes of arbitration, feel free to ask!

when i set out to deal with the arbiter committee, there were many issues gathering interest, at the time of the election preparations there were only 3 candidates. once the election was announced, there were more applicants. that lead to us deciding to go forward with less candidates and then choose an arbiter head to decide the next steps of the committee

the biggest hitting question is why there’s 1 of each being added when there’s already 3 staff arbiters. Equal representation of player and staff elected arbiters is the second thing in the handbook curious as to why that stuck even after getting many more applicants @crudestpack

Precisely

due to the low number of applicants at the time, some processes had to be bypassed in order to make the election process feasible. one of those processes is requiring a staff member to back a candidate. the number of candidates accepted was also set and overlooked once the final election was put out. for the time being. the situation will stay the same. the eventual result will likely lead to a staff arbiter becoming arbiter head leaving the committee at 3 staff arbiters, 2 player arbiters and an arbiter head. this seemed good enough for the time being. in the future, any arbiter head will have the ability to adjust the management of their committee as they see fit

oh i didnt realize backers were not needed anymore - i was also confused so ty for the clarification

i didn’t want to go around asking the 1 applicant for player arbiter to provide a staff member to back them in an election where they were the only person running for that position
