Player Arbiter ---------------- I enjoy having a nice clean community within CSC, which includes fair applications of the rules for all. (edited)

What is a fair application of rules? Should we start punishing people more equally and stop having favorites? Or should the rules be followed to a T and enforced constantly without any leeway?

@OS | iltemnc If mods want to make new precedent (interpretation of the rules) how do you view that change? For example, if in the past something was seen as okay but now mods decided it is not okay and we strike for that now. How do you think we should handle that? Should that player be let off that strike if they choose to appeal it?

Hello, current arbiter here (I'm the scary one). What is the biggest change you want to see in the current arbiter committee?

Fair application for me definitely means no favorites. The rules are written to be followed, and as an arbiter it is our job to make sure that the rules were correctly applied, or the decision was made within the "spirit" of the rules. I do believe that consistent application of the rules is an ideal situation.

I think that application of the rules should be consistent within a season. If the precedent wants to be changed DURING a season, the rule should be clarified during the off season. I don't believe that it is fair to switch a ruling during a season if it has already been allowed, and same for the reverse.

Outside of the known need of more player arbiters, the process likely needs to have a quicker turn around time. There is a world that it could be up to 7 days before a decision is reached, and if the decision is the overturn of the punishment, a player could still be potentially punished and miss matches for something arbiters judge to be otherwise.

@crudestpack to answer your question in the overall discussion page. No, i don't think that arbiters should change the interpretation of rule. Arbiters should make a decision based on if the original strike/etc... was in line with the rule/spirit of the rule. Obviously there will be cases that where the rules may have been interpreted in ways that may not be agreed with, but application of the rules should be consistent throughout a season. If a rule is inherently bad, that becomes up to the mods to enforce/rules committee to change.

In your own words, what does being an arbiter mean and do?

Being an arbiter is basically making the decision that a rule was applied justly and in line with the standards set within the behavior guidelines/csc rulebook

So as a follow up, what makes you uniquely experienced and/or qualified to make those decisions?

If you were presented with a case that involved two friends, and A was struck for being toxic to B, in clear violation of the rules, but both A and B claim that it was an inside joke how would you rule/make a decision.

I believe that i benefit from being new to CSC, I don't have a lot of communication with people outside of AGM duties and some Media nights. This means that i can't fall into the trap of "well this is how it's always been done" or have a significant bias against/for players/mods as the only ones i am with regularly is the franchise i am in

While that's fair, eventually you will get to know people (I hope), and will be here a long time (given that you are applying for this position). So, is there anything additional to your relative 'newness' that set you apart? (edited)

That's always a hard one, my judgement on it is that within "the walls of CSC" things that are said/done must follow the guidelines set, even as a joke. Assuming that the friend wouldn't have reported their own friend, the issue falls within the offending action causing harm to those around, in which i still believe the strike to most likely have been valid.

I played Collegiate CSGO for 3 years while i was in school, so i have been on both the receiving end and giving end on some rule disputes within that time period with CSL and FACEIT
