Staff Arbiter ---------------- My time as a mod and head mod has left me intimately familiar with the rules and procedures. On top of this I feel it is important to have people that are active in the server and that know the community as a part of the arbiters.

Hi Kowalskey, being a former mod and head mod I have a much more in depth perspective of this than anyone else given that arbiter cases are not public. Before answering I’d like to confirm with @crudestpack wether using this knowledge and experience is fair to weigh in publicly

I think the amount of discussion and proactiveness of some arbiters has lacked significantly and as a group I’d like to see the turn around time on appeals be cut down to 48 hours for a majority of cases. Especially since many arbitrations are very cut and dry

do you think the arbiter process should be very cut and dry as in. Did someone break this rule? Yes, case closed. Or do you think it should be more open to discussion, arguing, and defending why they did said thing?

@UPS | Raasck If mods want to make new precedent (interpretation of the rules) how do you view that change? For example, if in the past something was seen as okay but now mods decided it is not okay and we strike for that now. How do you think we should handle that? Should that player be let off that strike if they choose to appeal it?

Obviously there needs to be some level of discussion, but I think in many cases the arbiters are in a position where the cases are rather cut and dry. Do we agree a rule was broken? Y/N Do we agree what rule they were struck under? Y/N If no, what rules do we feel are a better fit for the events that occurred?

If precedent can be shown with past examples and good reasoning, it should definitely be taken into account. If the arbiters rule against that precedent however, I think it should be nullified for future cases (edited)

Given I only have limited interactions with some of them, Firehawk probably. They’ve shown a good ability to be level headed and fair in my interactions with them

I’m not sure I can fairly give an answer currently, since the proposal I wrote to overhaul the arbiters has (afaik) been passed and I haven’t had a chance to see how anything functions under those changes

Speaking of which @scraps can you confirm that that proposal was approved? I thought someone mentioned it had been but I think it’s important to mention in here if it did get approved

@crudestpack arbiters don’t decide what the rules are, they just ensure the rules are enforced correctly as written

For anyone interested: before I stepped down as head mod, I wrote a lengthy proposal to restructure the arbiters which was unanimously approved by the arbiters at the time and to my knowledge was officially approved by admins. This is a part of why I feel like I’d make a good candidate

As being a former mod and the head mod, why are you interested in rejoining the system and process? What do you hope to accomplish?

If you were presented with a case that involved two friends, and A was struck for being toxic to B, in clear violation of the rules, but both A and B claim that it was an inside joke how would you rule/make a decision.

Generally speaking, if it’s toxic enough to get struck and is clearly a violation of the rules the context doesn’t matter. Someone saying something like “you’re fucking terrible and I hope you kill yourself” isn’t something that will fly even if it’s between friends. Something like Mecha’s propensity to say “Fuck you Spence” is different for example, as “fuck you” can contextually be taken and read many different ways.

I still want to be apart of the server in some way and help. I think arbiter gives a chance to do this with a much lower time commitment than moderation.
