Why do you want to become an Admin? I believe I have had a positive impact on the league in my past two seasons as Admin, and I think I can continue to help the league grow and improve in coming seasons. What prior experience do you have that you believe will help you as an Admin? I have participated in CSC since Season 1, only missing S4 and S5. In my time in the league I've been a GM for one season, AGM for 3, and captain for 3. My past two seasons as an Admin will also serve as great experience should I be reelected. What things do you hope to implement, reinforce, or remove as an Admin. In the past two seasons that I've been Admin, we've made good improvements in our planning and organization. The yearly schedule we set up at the beginning of this year is a great step in the direction, helping the Admin team make sure that each season fits into the overall goal of ending our third season this year before Thanksgiving. For another example, using activity checks resulted in a great decrease of draft picks that were wasted on unresponsive players. However, some of that organization fell off during the regular season, as evidenced by some of the issues we encountered with FA activity and PFA to FA conversions. Including a mid-season FA activity check, along with better planning of other mid-season things will lead to smoother seasons in the future. One of my main goals if I am reelected would be to continue improvement of general league planning and organization. Anything else you would like to add? I am looking forward to seeing who the other candidates are and reading/answering everyone's questions! (edited)

Currently, no. I definitely felt a bit of it at the beginning of this past season, and I was a little less active during the first few weeks of the regular season because of it.

I'm having a hard time figuring out how to explain this well, but I would like to increase the amount of planning for the important things that need to happen each season. We have to plan out dates for combines, the draft, activity checks, etc. One of the improvements we made last season was doing a proper DE activity check in preseason. We did a good job of planning it out fully beforehand and it seemed to have a positive effect on health of all tiers. However, when it came to the regular season, we did not do another FA activity check. This is something that should be done, and I'm hoping we can implement it this season. The issues with the Premier FA conversion are also something that I think can be improved upon if we have a plan for it going into the season. Ultimately, I'm hoping we can reduce the number of times that things are missed or done late. Obviously there will always be ways to improve or do better, but the things I've listed above are a great place to start.

While a harmonious admin team sharing similar ideals offers certain benefits, it is important to recognize the value of diverse opinions for exploring various ideas and perspectives. There is a risk that a like-minded admin team may become complacent and defensive instead of championing the accountability the league expects from its administrators. As transparency is a key aspect for other candidates could you provide specific examples from the past season where you held differing opinions with each of the current admins who are not up for re-election? Kindly include details on the topics, the opinions expressed, and the alternative viewpoints you presented. This information would help better comprehend the dynamics and performance of the admin team should you be re-elected.

HG | andrew πŸ† 4/11/2023 4:15 AM
Last season's Premier had many of the perennial problems that Premier has experienced in prior seasons. However, there were some significant differences from Season 9. Here are some stats (correct me if any mistakes) that show the major differences from S9 to S10: Teams: 8 -> 6 Forfeits: 6 -> 0 Temporary contracts signed: 45 (1.05 / game) -> 47 (1.38 / game) Overall, I think most players would agree that a decrease in forfeit wins is a positive, whereas the decrease in team count and increase in subs per game are both negatives. My hope for the upcoming season would be that we can continue to minimize forfeits and decrease the number of subs needed. Increasing team count would also be great, although I think that is highly dependent on signup numbers and format changes will not greatly affect our ability to have more teams. I think all of these changes were caused in some part by the introduction of the pre-draft activity check. The check weeded out inactive players, and using the more accurate player count, we decided that Premier would only be able to support 6 teams instead of 8. Since more FAs were active, this made it easier for teams to find subs instead of forfeiting, resulting in both less forfeited matches and more subs used per match on average. In terms of improvements we can make, there are a number of ideas that have been brought up. As many people have mentioned before, we should do a poll near the beginning of next season to determine what schedule format changes might be best for Premier players.
  • We can consider changing the default days to different days that don't coincide as much with ESEA.
  • Reducing Premier to 1 match day per week is an option, but I would be hesitant to do this since I think this would be disliked by the players that only play CSC and not ESEA (poll results would prove or disprove this theory).
  • Another potential option is to loosen up the rescheduling rules for Premier, similar to what happened in Season 7. If the reschedule window is longer, it would likely be easier for teams to find a date and time that works for more of their players and reduce the number of subs needed.
  • Not a scheduling change, but we should implement a mid-season activity check to remove inactive FAs. This would lead to active PFAs being converted to FA, allowing teams more options for roster changes if their rostered changes are frequently unavailable (hopefully reducing subbing). Ultimately though, my philosophy with change is that we should be careful to not change Premier too much from the other tiers, and I would want overwhelming support from the Premier players before making significant changes from the typical format. Hopefully my wall of text was readable, if you or anyone else has questions on any of these specific ideas (or different ones), feel free to ask and I can expand more.

Do you think bending to help one tier is a slippery slope?? And if you don’t then what stops Elite players to ask for different days if they play on the same IM teams that premier players do? What would be your answer to Elite tier wanting autonomy of their tiers schedule??

I would say both yes and no. When I ran for admin two seasons ago, my main reason for running was that I was unsatisfied with the inactivity of the current admin team and how they performed their duties. From my perspective at least, there was much to improve in that regard. It's not really easy to prove/show, but I believe I've done a good job performing the day to day duties of an Admin. There is still many ways we can improve as a team, as I've mentioned in my other answers, but I would say I did accomplish my original main goal from the last election. I also had a few specific ideas coming into the election. One of the these ideas was a change to serious suggestions so that after a certain amount of positive reactions, a suggestion would go to the admins for an official response. We never implemented this change, but I think it still has merit and could potentially be done in the future. Another change I suggested was use of a Trello board for the admin team. I suggested this with the idea that it would be public and aid in transparency between the admins and players. In retrospect, since many things that admins deal with are private, we would have to omit or censor much of the day to day work that the admins do. I think the past two seasons have shown me the importance of the admin team being organized, which is something we can definitely improve upon. As I mentioned in my answer to RedondO, I think we have gotten better at this, but there is still room for improvement. Currently, we just track things within Discord, but this leads to tasks getting lost or forgotten about. Using a tool meant for tracking tasks, such as Trello, would improve the admin team's productivity. Better admin productivity would also lead to greater committee productivity and a better player experience.

In my time as admin, both Jermz and Owen have been GM, as well as staff members in other committees. After seeing them perform those roles, I believe that both would make great admins. Homer similarly would do well in the admin role, although I would have some concerns for Numbers Committee, considering the role he currently plays in it as committee head.

I think a good example to answer your question would be some of the decisions we made regarding the schedule for this past season. We put out a poll to all players during preseason, gathering opinions on some scheduling topics (Valentine's day bye, play-in matches, etc.). We used the results of this poll to help make decisions on the schedule. For example, with over half of respondents saying they would not be able to play on Valentine's day, we decided that a bye was necessary for that day. In this case, the admin team agreed unanimously. On the contrary, deciding how many team would be in play-ins for Challenger was not a unanimous decision. In Challenger, the top 6 teams directly qualified to playoffs. The decision we had to make was whether play-ins would be between the 7th-10th place teams or the 7th-12th place teams. This had no other effects on the schedule and was mainly a matter of philosophy on how many teams should make playoffs. Some of us believed that having 12/14 teams in play-ins/playoffs was too many, other believed that it was better to include more teams in the postseason when possible. In the end, the vote was split 3-2 in favor of the 7th-12th format. Personally, I voted for the 7th-12th format, since I believed it was better to give more teams a chance to qualify into playoffs. I hope my answer gives you some perspective to the way that the admins discuss and make decisions.

I don't personally see it as a "slippery slope". I think in the case of Premier, some changes are needed in order to accommadate the high percentage of ESEA players in the tier, and it is fine to make these changes. If the upper level of skill in CSC grows to the point where a significant portion of Elite players are also having conflicts due to ESEA, I see no reason why we couldn't make similar schedule changes.

HG | andrew πŸ† 4/12/2023 7:52 PM
CSC is a great place to play more organized CS in a more informal and community driven way than ESEA. Being able to play with and against friends was and still is a great driving factor for why I enjoy participating in CSC. Additionally, the range of skill in each tier has shrunk since the first few seasons, which makes the actual CS a lot more fun and interesting to play. Aside from the league itself, I enjoy being able to discuss things such as CS skins and esports with community members. I've also played in many events over the past seasons, and those have been a great deal of fun too. For players that have had poor experiences, I would say that they are likely to have much better experiences in the future. I think the large amount of returning players that we have each season is good evidence that the vast majority of players enjoy their time playing in the league. I would also encourage the player to share their experience with the mods/admins if they believe they were mistreated in some way, or give feedback on how our systems can be improved for the future. Besides that, I can't really give much more advice without a more specific issue than just "a discouraging CSC experience".

Through my experience as an arbiter, there seems to be a variety of views on how different staff groups and player groups view arbiters. I understand no individual has the ability to dictate or define what that role is, but what do you see the role of Arbiters as? Do you see the high turnover rate of arbiters as an issue? Do you want to see any changes to that role?

The focus in a lot of Admin elections tends to land on transparency or major changes the candidates want to see. That said, you would be joining a group with a trajectory they have been working towards for a season(+) and would need to work with them for any changes around that. What current projects or actions do you want to encourage and help with that the current admin team is working on? What is one idea or project of yours do you think the current team would help you with?

I believe my previous answers should explain this well enough. But in short, the only "project" I really want to work on is improving the the way we divide up and track tasks on the admin team.

Nothing in particular, but the idea that Anonimouse mentioned of becoming a non-profit is something I think is worth looking into. I have basically zero knowledge of that kind of thing, but I think it would be good to explore it and see how it might benefit us.

Most likely not. The team building aspect is not something that really interests me at all, and I'm not too big of a fan of managing players. I would prefer to just be a player and contribute to CSC through being an Admin or other staff positions.

Yes Reddit is our main source of new players, if I'm not mistaken. I think we are also trying to ramp up activity on social media sites like TikTok and Twitter, which should help us reach a different set of potential players if we can grow them. I've never been too involved in the advertising part of CSC so I don't really have many ideas for drawing in new players.
